Story~
Why are people obsessed with fashion?
Is it the glamour? The fame?
My name is Jenna and believe me I have never been obsessed with just fashion or trends just obsessed with the process of making beautiful things and sharing them with the world.
But in the process I got tangled up and eventually became a fashion icon.
Let me explain.
My life, ever normal.
But I loved dolls when I was a child and made clothes for them all the time.
Big dolls, little dolls, dolls with big heads, small bodies - every size and shape, I made clothes for them.
Spring, summer, autumn and winter my dolls were dressed most fashionably and in every style you can imagine. Cool, pop, cute, fresh, bohemian and gothic lolita.
So of course, as I grew up to seek my life work, I decided to go to the “Fashion Institute of Ecstatic Creations” a school where I could change the mind of the world.
After graduation, I got a job as an intern at the most reputable fashion magazine. There I did everything.
I worked from morning to night, on call for every story, every editor and every occasion and press event throughout the year.
It was a lot of work and a lot of hours but it was a well earned learning experience. Great things are not got easily.
I am young so why not take advantage of my youth and the opportunities I was given to satiate my desire to succeed.
Then the day came.
I was given a chance to share my creative side.
The magazine gave me an assignment to create a fashion feature story for the upcoming issue.
So when I was given the opportunity to create this spread, I wanted it to be special.
I wanted to make sure the pages were reaching a goal beyond fashion.
On my days off, I did a lot of volunteer work.
When I was a young girl I used to fantasize about working for the Peace Corp, or flying off to India to devote my life to Mother Teresa.
Instead I spent weekends at the community center in the Big Sister program taking children from the lower income families on bonding excursions, or going to the senior centers to dance with the elders, or collect donations in the neighborhood for the children center. It came naturally and with no motivation.
So I decided to cover the 8th anniversary Charity Exhibition that features designers from around the world at the world held at the stylish Omotesando Hills in Tokyo. The theme was fashion in every season, and in every conceivable category.
The day came to do the shoot.
The fashion was there, the photographer was ready, the stylist and the make up artist all on the set.
But as we waited to get started, we realized our model was missing. We waited. And waited.
But she never showed.
I was desperate.
Here was my chance to be published.
Here were the wonderful outfits from the wonderful designers and all for charity.
And no model.
Suddenly the photographer spoke up.
Why don't you model.
The stylist and make up artist also agreed, yes that’s a great idea, you model.
Are they talking about me? I am not a model.
But without a model there is no story, no publication and maybe no charity.
Okay then I will do it. I will do whatever is takes to complete this project.
So I got dressed, styled and made up and photographed for the rest of the day.
When the story came out the chief editor didn't realize the model was me. Until the day of the Charity Fashion Show Press Party. I came dressed in my gown and my flawless make up. The guests were celebrities from around the world, the designers and the charities.
What didn't expect was the special award they handed out to the magazine for the awareness they provided for the good cause.
That fashion isn't only about looks. It’s also about the heart.
Now, I am a busy working girl, with a flair for fashion, and a love for creative, and a heart for giving.
